Role Overview

We are looking for a Safeguarding Officer to support schools and the local authority in fulfilling statutory safeguarding responsibilities under Section 175 of the Education Act 2002. In this permanent, part‑time role (29.6 hours per week) you will deliver training, develop policies and provide expert advice to Designated Safeguarding Leads and education professionals. The salary advertised will be pro‑rated.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver DSL training, refresher courses and whole‑school safeguarding sessions.
  • Lead DSL forums and support multi‑agency working, including MARAC and MACE processes.
  • Provide targeted support to schools identified as vulnerable or underperforming.
  • Monitor safeguarding performance and conduct school safeguarding reviews.
  • Advise on policy development and ensure compliance with national guidance such as Keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together.
  • Support schools in preparing for Ofsted inspections and developing action plans to improve safeguarding standards.
About You
  • At least 2 years of safeguarding experience working with children in education or social care.
  • Holder of a teaching or social work qualification (or equivalent).
  • Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Understanding of how schools operate and ability to tailor support accordingly.
  • IT literate and able to manage workload and priorities effectively.
  • Passionate about safeguarding and committed to continuous professional development.
  • Full driving licence and ability to converse with members of the public in accurate spoken English.
