Our Supported Internship programme is designed to prepare young adults with SEND for sustainable employment through a blend of classroom learning and meaningful work placements to suit individuals’ needs.

This programme is funded by Government grant, by the Council and is inspected by Ofsted.

As a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) for our Supported Internship programme, you will provide tailored, flexible support to young adults with SEND across both educational and within workplace settings.

Working closely with tutors, senior job coaches and employers, you will support learners to develop essential employability skills, independence and confidence.

In this role, you will:

• Support learners during classroom-based sessions, helping them engage with employability, English, maths and personal development activities to prepare for adulthood.
• Assist in adapting learning materials and activities to meet individual needs.
• Support learners in real work placements, helping them to understand tasks, build workplace skills and interact appropriately with colleagues.
• Assist employers and staff on placements to ensure learners are supported effectively and progressing well.
• Encourage independence, confidence and resilience in both learning and workplace environments.
• Assist with the development and maintenance of learner support plans and progress records.
• Work collaboratively with tutors and job coaches to prepare learners for placements and review their progress.
• Promote safeguarding, equality and inclusion at all times.
• Contribute to the smooth running of sessions and placements, including preparing resources and supporting transitions between settings.

This is a casual role based at our teaching venue, Bucks New University, Aylesbury and various employer sites across Buckinghamshire. Flexibility is essential, as the role includes both classroom-based sessions and time spent supporting learners on external placements.

You will enjoy working with young people and be motivated by supporting them to achieve meaningful outcomes in employment and independence. You need to be patient, proactive and able to adapt your approach to meet a range of learning and support needs.

You’ll be confident supporting learners in different environments, from classrooms to busy workplaces, and comfortable working with employers as well as education staff.

Experience of supporting young adults with SEND, particularly in a learning or employment setting would be advantageous but is not essential.

A good standard of spoken English (Level
2) and access to your own transport is essential. Relevant qualifications in English, maths or support work are welcomed.
