About The Role
EKFB is a joint venture that brings together international, market‑leading expertise from four civil engineering and construction companies:
Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial Construction and BAM Nuttall. The partnership specialises in the design, construction, operation, financing and maintenance of railway networks, including major high‑speed rail projects.
EKFB is looking for a Soil Scientist to join our team based in Aylesbury.
In this role you will audit the stockpiling, management, handling and auditing of topsoil and subsoil stockpiles to satisfy the contract requirements. This will include working with and directing the site team in these operations and recording information about the soil and its management.
Responsibilities- Assessment of stockpiled soil condition limited to physical characteristics (e.g., plasticity, soil storage/handling practices).
- Inspection of soil reconditioning windrows.
- Inspection of restored soil profiles.
- ITP review and provision of soil condition reports detailing restoration works undertaken and replaced.
- Understanding of engineering/ construction requirements and methodology of a large construction scheme.
- Ability to work independently, make decisions and understand lines of communication on site.
- Provision of direction and advice to contractors, offering practical solutions where necessary.
- Leadership of soil scientist/practitioner team carrying out soil surveys and recording natural physical properties of soils.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in soil science, geography, geology or another relevant environmental discipline.
- Member of the British Society of Soil Science (M.I. Soil Sci).
- Professional soil scientist with competence in Agricultural Land Classification (ALC).
- A track record in soil science research or application – preferably on infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency using GIS systems and MS Office productivity packages.
- Sound knowledge of soils and ability to identify soil types on site, including ALC grade.
- A logical approach to soil surveying and recording the in‑situ profile.
- Proficient use of IT.
- Current CSCS card holder.
- Driving licence required for this role.
