About The Role

EKFB is a joint venture that brings together international, market‑leading expertise from four civil engineering and construction companies. The company is responsible for designing, constructing, operating, financing, and maintaining railway networks, including high‑speed rail projects. We are looking for a Soil Scientist based in Aylesbury. The role involves auditing the stockpiling, management, handling, and record‑keeping of topsoil and subsoil stockpiles in line with contract requirements, directing the site team, and producing soil condition reports.

Responsibilities
  • Audit the stockpiling, management, handling, and auditing of topsoil and subsoil stockpiles.
  • Work with and direct the site team in these operations and record information about the soil and its management.
  • Assess stockpiled soil condition, including physical characteristics such as plasticity and storage/handling practices.
  • Inspect soil reconditioning windrows, restored soil profiles, and review ITPs.
  • Provide detailed soil condition reports detailing restoration works undertaken and replaced.
  • Operate independently, make decisions, and manage lines of communication on site.
  • Provide direction and advice to contractors, offer practical solutions, and lead soil scientists/practitioners in field surveys.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in soil science, geography, geology, or another relevant environmental discipline.
  • Member of the British Society of Soil Science (M.I. Soil Sci).
  • Professional soil scientist competence in Agricultural Land Classification (ALC).
  • Track‑record in soil science research or application, preferably on infrastructure projects.
  • Proficient using GIS systems and the MS Office suite.
  • Sound knowledge of soils and ability to identify soil types on site, including ALC grade.
  • Logical approach to soil surveying and recording the in‑situ profile.
  • Proficient in information technology.
  • Current CSCS card holder.
  • Valid driving licence.
