Based in Aylesbury, the GSE Test Technician, Aerospace role involves hands-on work within a permanent contract, offering a salary between £35,000 and £38,000 per annum. Your primary duties centre on conducting hot fire tests of apogee engines, instrumenting hardware, and preparing flight units for evaluation. You will support lead engineers with site upkeep, manage propellant sampling, and maintain mechanical and steam vacuum systems.

Calibration of instrumentation and boiler maintenance are also key. This position suits someone with solid technical abilities who can handle flight components carefully. Working patterns are full-time, requiring practical aptitude and precision. Prior experience in test environments or propulsion systems would be advantageous, though a methodical approach to safety and procedures is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct hot fire testing of apogee engines.
  • Instrument engines and maintain firing site.
  • Support lead Test Engineers for site preparation and maintenance.
  • Handle propellant sampling, analysis, and testing.
  • Maintain and operate mechanical and steam vacuum systems.
  • Calibrate instrumentation and conduct steam boiler maintenance.
  • Work with and handle flight hardware, including preparation of customer flight engines for test, instrumentation, installation on to the test stand, removal post hot fire test, and subsequent engine decontamination activities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Previous experience in GSE testing and chemical analysis of propellants.
  • Proficiency in writing reports and test procedures.
  • Familiarity with hot fire testing, propellant handling, and pressure systems checks.
  • Experience with aerospace clean rooms and fuelling operations.
  • Ability to interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (PandIDs).
  • Strong understanding of high-pressure gas and fluidic systems.
