We havean exciting opportunity as an Aseptic Unit Manager at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, working across Stoke Mandeville and High Wycombe. In this pivotal role, you will lead and develop askilled multidisciplinary team, driving excellence in aseptic service provision. You will maintain and enhance quality and safety within the unit, ensuring all operational processes are guided by robust Standard Operating Procedures andbest practice standards.

You will also drive innovation and improvement in pharmaceutical services, contributing to the ongoing development of the department and the wider pharmacy service, while promoting professional excellence and upholding the highest standards of conduct.

Main duties of the job

As aSpecialist Technician Aseptic Unit Manager, you will work under the supervision of the Accountable Pharmacist or their designated representative tosupport the safe, effective, and patient-focused delivery of aseptic services across the organisation. You will be responsible for the procurement, inventory management, and cost control of externally sourced aseptic products, as well as accuracy checking of oral chemotherapy and associated supportive medications. Youwill be managing the unlicensed aseptic unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and providing day-to-day supervision and support to pharmacy staff in this technical area.

You will collaborate closely with nursing teams and pharmacists to ensure the timely preparation and delivery of chemotherapy and other aseptic products across the Trust. Additionally, you will work alongside the Quality Assurance Department to maintain safe and efficient service operations, and actas a Practice Supervisor and Expert Witness, supporting the training and development of pharmacy staff and students.

Job responsibilities
  • To maintain consistent concentration and attention to detail to minimise medication errors and ensure patient safety.
  • To safely handle hazardous materials, including cytotoxic medicines,monoclonal antibodies, and cleaning agents, in compliance with all safety standards.
  • To accurately and promptly communicate information regarding prescription sand medication availability to pharmacy, medical, nursing colleagues, and patients.
  • To manage staff rotas and support professional development, including supervision, training, and maintaining practice expertise within the team.
  • To dispense controlled drugs and investigational medicinal products inline with legal requirements, Good Clinical Practice, trial protocols, and accredited pharmacy standards.
  • To develop,update, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support the safeand efficient running of the aseptic service.
Person Specification Qualifications
  • Experience in aseptic hospital pharmacy practice.
  • Skilled in safe preparation of chemotherapy, CIVAS, and other aseptic medicines.
  • Willing to train and support learners on GPhC-accredited courses.
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD.
  • Knowledge of aseptic techniques, safety standards, and relevant legislation.
