A Triage Midwife provides the first point of assessment for pregnant and postnatal women who contact or attend maternity triage. Responsibilities include assessing presenting symptoms, completing appropriate maternal and fetal observations, identifying risk factors, providing advice and reassurance, arranging investigations and treatment, and escalating concerns to the appropriate obstetric or multidisciplinary team. The midwife also supports effective patient flow, safe decision-making, timely referral and accurate documentation, ensuring women receive appropriate care within the maternity pathway.
