Highway Asset Management Systems Analyst

Location:

Aylesbury

Reporting to the Asset Systems & Data Management, the role is central to ensuring that our asset management systems align with business needs, operate efficiently and provide highway asset data. Working closely with software suppliers, the Buckinghamshire Highways Alliance, managers and end users, you will support system implementation, configuration, data analysis and continuous improvement.

This is an excellent opportunity for a systems-focused analyst with strong data and stakeholder skills to make a real impact on how highway assets are managed, reported and invested in across the county.

About the role

As Highway Asset Management Systems Analyst, you will act as a key link between business users and system providers, ensuring highway asset management systems are reliable, well configured and fit for purpose.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Acting as a first point of contact and superuser for Highway Asset Management systems.
  • Managing relationships with software suppliers, partner organisations and internal users.
  • Supporting the implementation of new Highway Asset Management systems and major system improvements.
  • Independently analysing, troubleshooting and resolving system-related issues.
  • Providing day-to-day end-user support and coordinating issue resolution.
  • Designing, developing and maintaining reports, dashboards and queries to meet service needs.
  • Supporting service areas to identify problems, improve processes and implement innovative solutions.
  • Independently configuring and developing asset management systems to support business requirements.
  • Designing test specifications and undertaking rigorous testing prior to live system releases.

Planning and coordinating system downtime, upgrades, maintenance and change management.
  • Managing documentation, including the development of new procedures, guidance and user documentation.
  • Supporting and delivering training for system users across the service.
  • Actively identifying opportunities for innovation, automation and continuous improvement through technology.
  • Participating in change control processes and ensuring appropriate documentation and governance.
About you

You will be an analytical and solutions-focused professional with a strong background in systems, data or asset information management, ideally within a highways, infrastructure or related environment.

Desired experience and skills
  • Experience working with databases and information systems at administrator or superuser level.
  • Knowledge of asset management information systems and an interest in emerging technologies.
  • Strong data handling and analytical skills, including advanced use of Microsoft Excel.
  • The ability to translate technical or specialist information into clear, accessible language for non-specialists.
  • Experience working collaboratively with internal teams, external partners and system suppliers.
  • Confidence in analysing activities, improving processes and managing small improvement projects.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple issues, tasks or system changes concurrently.
  • A proactive approach, with the initiative and judgement to research, identify and resolve problems.

You will be educated to degree level (or have equivalent experience), with a background in data, IT, asset management or a related discipline. An IT-related qualification or experience within highway maintenance or asset management environments would be advantageous.

We offer hybrid working arrangements.
