To provide clinical expertise in the specialist nursing care of patients with ENT conditions, supporting Consultant colleagues and working autonomously in nurse led clinics. To ensure the ENT Nurse Led services offer high quality, efficient care. The post holder will provide support and advice to patients and families as well as acting as a resource to other professionals both in the hospital and external agencies.
The post holder will support management and development of the ENT Nurse Specialist team.
Supporting Clinicians and nursing staff within the ENT speciality, providing expert knowledge and skills to support good patient outcomes. To ensure that high quality evidence based care is delivered to patients. Nurse led services including complex ear clinics/ altered airway clinics/ tonsil clinics - the list is not exhaustive.

Jobresponsibilities
Nurse led clinics - will include clinics for complex ear conditions/ disease, altered airway patients for tracheostomy tube changes, laryngectomy speaking valve changes, supporting emergency pathways as well as planned care. To act as a clinical resource within the ENT specialty and to offer advice and support to the multidisciplinary team om the ENT outpatient and inpatient setting. To prescribe and administer medication as an independent non-medical prescriber according to Trust policy.
Qualificationsand training Essential
- Registered General Nurse
- Degree in Nursing (or equivalent / working towards MSc
- Preparation of mentors or equivalent.
- Non-medical prescribing qualification
- MSc.
- ENT qualification.
- Teaching qualification
- Expert clinical skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Tracheostomy/ Laryngectomy care skills
- Able to use own initiative and work autonomously
- Leadership skills
- History Taking
- Clinical Examination and Health Assessment module or equivalent
- Independent Nurse Prescriber Aural toilet
- Management of ENT speciality pathways - Audiology etc
- Ability to lead developments in practice
- Flexible and adaptable to changing situations due to workload and colleagues needs.
- Managing complex workload with competing demands
- Well organised and able to prioritise own workload and that of others
- Previous experience at Band 6 within specialty
- Microsuction
- Nurse Prescriber
- Decontamination of endoscopes
- Laryngoscopy
- Understanding of evidence-based practice.
- Understanding of Clinical Governance
- Understanding of patient pathways, complexities and how to support patients through this.
