OverviewWe seek to appoint an enthusiastic individual, suitably experienced and qualified to assist in delivery of undergraduate teaching within University Hospital Ayr. It is anticipated that around four sessions per week will be devoted to clinical teaching activities, both at bedside and facilitated tutorials.
TeachingTeaching will be based within the Department of Medicine/Surgery and will focus on teaching Medical Students who rotate to University Hospital Ayr from the University of Glasgow. Commencing 5th August 2026, you will also be expected to undertake Clinical Research and/or Audit projects in Ophthalmology based at University Hospital Ayr in addition to studying for a further qualification in Medical Education for which you will be supported.
The Board will provide significant funding towards a PG Certificate in Medical Education with our partner university. It is envisaged that this will cover most of the course fee. The contribution will be clarified by the time of interview. University Hospital Ayr has been awarded a Certificate of Excellence voted by the graduating class MBChB 2018.
The post holder will be required to undertake clinical / research duties in Ophthalmology department which will account for approximately 16 hours per week. Clinical duties will primarily be based in University Hospital Ayr. There will be excellent opportunities for clinical research work in Ophthalmology and the appointee would be expected to be actively involved in ongoing and new clinical trials.
Contribution to out of hours, will be candidate dependant. Participation will attract an out of hour’s supplement of up to 50%.
Excellent communication skills and completion of Foundation training and attainment of FY2 competencies are essential at the time of appointment. You will have an interest in Undergraduate and Postgraduate Education and a drive to achieve a Higher Degree (Masters or Doctorate). Possession of membership exams is preferable but not essential. Eight hours per week will be dedicated to research/higher studies. Candidates must hold Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice.
Essential CriteriaIf you do not meet the essential criteria which is full GMC Registration with a licence to practice and 12 months paid NHS experience, then you will not be shortlisted for this post.
