Job Summary

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that construction workshops are safe, well‑resourced, and effectively organised to support high‑quality learning and teaching. The role includes preparing materials and equipment for practical classes, maintaining tools and machinery, and supporting both staff and students during workshop activities.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure that construction workshops are safe, well‑resourced, and effectively organised to support high‑quality learning and teaching.
  • Prepare materials and equipment for practical classes.
  • Maintain tools, machinery, and construction materials.
  • Support staff and students during workshop activities.
Qualifications
  • Relevant industry experience within carpentry and joinery.
  • Strong understanding of current health and safety practices within a workshop setting.
  • Trade qualification in carpentry and joinery, or a related construction discipline.
  • Sound knowledge of workshop health and safety, including safe systems of work, risk assessments and COSHH regulations.
  • Experience in the use, maintenance and safe storage of hand and power tools, machinery, and construction materials.
  • Ability to prepare and set up workshop activities, ensuring all resources are available and fit for purpose.
  • Proactive, flexible approach toward teaching, with the ability to work across multiple construction disciplines where required.
  • Strong organisational skills – ability to manage stock, order materials, and maintain workshop spaces to a high standard.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills – ability to work effectively with lecturing staff and support students of varying abilities.
  • Pride in maintaining a safe and professional workshop environment and commitment to supporting a positive learning experience for all students.
  • Understanding of the needs of learners within a further education setting, including school pupils, pre‑apprentices, and employed apprentices (advantageous).
