Duty Nurse Manager
Location:
London – Princess Grace Hospital, rated “Good” by the CQC.
Employment:
Full time, 37.5 hours per week (Mon‑Sun). Shift times include long days, nights and weekends. Permanent contract. Salary:
Competitive (DOE) plus shift allowance and benefits (pension, health cover, flexible benefits and excellent career development).
This role is integral to the operational running of the hospital, responsible for managing in‑ and out‑of‑hours challenges that an acute hospital provides. It requires a strong leadership background, excellent communication, key decision‑making, risk management, problem‑solving and good governance understanding.
The Duty Nurse Manager works closely with the Matron & Chief Nursing Officer to support visible leadership at Princess Grace Hospital.
Responsibilities include:
- Safe and effective 24/7 running of the site.
- Coordinating patient flow to inpatient wards.
- Responding to major incident situations/alerts.
- Acting as Officer of Fire.
- Out‑of‑hours senior support to all units.
- Providing expert clinical and professional support across all hospital areas and associated outpatient facilities.
- Assuming responsibility as the hospital manager during out‑of‑hours periods.
- Overseeing patient flow for scheduled and unscheduled admissions, working with the Urgent Care Centre, Acute Assessment Units and the Patient Flow Team.
- Leading emergency response plans for incidents such as fire, cardiac arrest and major events.
- Accurate assessment of emergency admissions and clinical reviews for patients with elevated NEWS scores.
- Managing challenging situations under pressure and upholding the highest standards of patient care and safety.
- NMC registration Level 1.
- Post‑registration qualification.
- Previous/current management experience.
- Excellent organisational and management skills with the ability to respond flexibly to service needs.
- Experience in complex care / HDU / critical care.
- ALS qualification (ILS acceptable but ALS expected to be completed).
- Advanced clinical practice qualification (or working towards) or advanced clinical assessment course.
