Position: Continence Nurse for Care Homes

Position

Continuance Nurse for Care Homes (Band
6) – Care Home Professional Support Team based at Ailsa Hospital NHS Ayrshire & Arran. The role requires a registered nurse with the NMC, minimum 2 years practice post registration, and a UK driving licence.

Hours

36 hours per week (full time) Monday to Friday, permanent basis.

What You Will Do

As a member of the Care Home Professional Support Team you will provide professional nursing support, advice, education and supervision to staff in older people and adult care homes throughout Ayrshire & Arran.

  • Work independently, managing a caseload and diary.
  • Travel to community locations and care homes using your own vehicle.
  • Collaborate with the Community Continence Team and other Health & Social Care Partnerships.
  • Support care homes to enhance knowledge and practice in managing residents with new and ongoing continence needs.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and written skills, quality improvement methodology and data collection.
  • Provide professional leadership, specialist nursing expertise and evidence-based guidance for education.
  • Offer holistic assessment and specialist clinical advice on urinary management and related therapies, including use of devices.
Key Qualifications & Experience
  • Registered General Nurse with minimum two years post registration experience, interested in continence promotion and management.
  • Certificate in Continence Management (Continence Module Level 3, BSc) – essential.
  • A degree, specialist qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to lifelong learning and continuing professional development.
  • Experience working in the community setting or care homes (desirable).
  • Ability to keep skills and knowledge updated and documented.
  • Experience teaching residents, carers and professional colleagues (desirable).
  • Practice supervisor or assessor experience (desirable).
  • Extensive training and knowledge in continence products, fitting and environmental factors related to disposal.
