Position Definition – Assistant Water Utility EngineerUnder general supervision, performs a variety of field and office sub-professional civil engineering work in the research, design and construction of water capital infrastructure, improvements, maintenance, and construction projects; prepares a diverse range of engineering plans, technical specifications, calculations, studies, reports and special conditions for new developments; conducts site visits to monitor construction project progress; performs related duties as required.
Position Definition – Associate Water Utility EngineerUnder direct supervision of the Senior Water System Engineer, and by extension the Water System Engineer, the Associate Water Utility Engineer performs a variety of field and office professional civil engineering work in the research, planning, design and construction of water capital infrastructure, improvements, maintenance and construction projects; develops project budgets, engineer’s estimates, construction schedules, technical specifications, and special conditions for new developments;
prepares engineering reports, plans, and technical studies; performs related duties as required.
The Assistant Water Utility Engineer classification perform sub-professional routine and complex engineering assignments and are responsible for independent engineering analysis and recommendations. Incumbents assist in carrying out assigned water system capital improvement designs, construction, and maintenance projects, designs for new and upgraded water services for new developments and customers, and performs related moderately difficult sub-professional engineering work.
Class Characteristics – Associate Water Utility EngineerThe Associate Water Utility Engineer is a professional level classification assigned to the department of Water Operations. Incumbents of this class perform journey level routine and complex professional civil engineering assignments and are responsible for independent engineering analysis and recommendations. Incumbents are responsible for carrying out assigned water system capital improvement designs, construction, and maintenance projects, and designs for new and upgraded water services for new developments and customers.
Incumbents may supervise the work of assigned professionals, consultants, and technical staff, including lower level staff performing inspections of water facilities.
Receives supervision from the Senior Water System Engineer, Water System Engineer, and Associate Water Utility Engineer. Exercises no supervision.
