Position Summary We are seeking a Purchase Engineer to bridge technical workshop requirements with global and local supply chains. You will analyze technical drawings, bill of materials (BOMs), and raw material specifications to source high-grade metals, CNC tooling, and subcontracted services. This role demands a balance of mechanical engineering knowledge, vendor negotiation, and strict quality compliance.
- Technical Sourcing:
Read 2D/3D engineering drawings, CAD models, and BOMs to identify required raw material specifications (steel grades, heat treatments, plates, bars) and precision machining tooling. - Supplier & Subcontractor Evaluation:
Identify, vet, and manage certified vendors for raw materials, heat treatment, surface finishing, non-destructive testing (NDT), and 3rd-party inspections. - Cost Optimization & RFQs:
Issue detailed RFQs, evaluate technical/commercial bids, and negotiate favourable prices, lead times, and payment terms to maximise project margins. - Material Compliance:
Review Material Test Reports (MTRs), Mill Test Certificates (MTCs), and heat numbers to ensure full traceability and compliance with international standards (ASTM, DIN, ISO, BS). - PO & Inventory Coordination:
Generate Purchase Orders (POs), resolve supply delays, and liaise with workshop storekeepers to verify incoming material quality.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field. - Experience:
3+ years as a Purchase Engineer, Procurement Engineer, or Technical Estimator in a machine shop, steel fabrication facility, or mechanical manufacturing plant. - Technical
Skills:
Strong ability to read mechanical drawings and familiarity with engineering materials (alloy steels, stainless steel, wear-resistant plates, tool steels). - Software:
Proficient in ERP/MRP systems (ZOHO) and MS Excel for data analysis. - Negotiation & Analytical
Skills:
Proven ability to manage supply chain risks, reduce procurement costs, and negotiate technical terms. - Work Location:
