My client is a well-established civil construction contractor in California with a strong record of delivering public and private infrastructure projects. As they keep growing, they’re looking for an experienced Civil Estimator to join their preconstruction team and help win and shape their next round of projects.
The role
In this role, you’ll prepare accurate, competitive estimates for civil and heavy civil work. You’ll work closely with operations, project management and senior leadership, and your work will directly affect which projects the business wins.
What you’ll be doing
- Reviewing plans, specifications and bid documents for public and private civil projects
- Doing quantity take-offs for earthwork, grading, underground utilities (storm, sewer, water), paving and concrete
- Building detailed cost estimates covering labour, equipment, materials and subcontractors
- Requesting, reviewing and comparing subcontractor and supplier quotes
- Preparing and submitting bid packages on time, including public works bids
- Taking part in pre-bid meetings, site visits and project handovers to operations
- Tracking bid results and keeping cost data up to date to improve future estimates
What they’re looking for
- 3+ years’ estimating experience with a civil, heavy civil or site development contractor
- Strong knowledge of earthwork, underground utilities and paving
- Experience with estimating and take-off software (e.g. HCSS Heavy Bid, B2W, Agtek, Bluebeam or similar)
- Familiarity with California public works bidding (Caltrans, municipal or agency work is a plus)
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage several bids against tight deadlines
- A degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related field is preferred, though equivalent experience will be considered
