Librarian/Information Competency Instructor, Part-time Adjunct Pool - ESCC
Join the Kern Community College District as a part‑time adjunct instructor in the Library. Salary starts at $67.00 per hour, with rates varying by assignment and Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) formula. Applications remain active up to two years.
Basic FunctionProvide instruction in Information Competency, both in the classroom and within the library.
Information Competency topics include recognizing an information need, information retrieval, evaluation of information, information formats, presenting information effectively, and understanding legal and ethical aspects of information.
The assignment may include day or evening classes, weekend classes, large classes, distance learning, and multiple teaching methodologies.
Representative Duties- Perform academic reference and instruction in the use of the library’s online resources.
- Develop and present library research and writing workshops.
- Promote library resources to faculty and other stakeholders.
- Engage in general library activities such as collection development, developing subject guides, promotion, and outreach.
- Maintain subject‑matter currency; develop and revise curriculum using computer and multimedia technology.
- Participate collegially in departmental, college and discipline‑specific professional activities.
- Master’s in Library Science, Library and Information Science or equivalent.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions; foreign degrees evaluated by a NACES or ACEI member.
- Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning and service to a diverse student population.
- Ability to work with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals.
- Ability to develop curriculum delivered via different modalities.
- Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges and universities.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain subject‑matter currency.
- Ability to assess student learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit the program.
- Commitment to the California community college mission.
