Basic Function

Please Note:

Kern Community College District accepts applications for part-time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. This allows the division to contact qualified applicants immediately if a need arises, without waiting for a new advertisement. Applications submitted will remain active for up to two years. Qualified applicants will be contacted by department supervisors, deans, or division chairs as needed.

The district is seeking part-time, hourly adjunct instructors for various campuses including Bakersfield, Delano, Arvin, City Serve, Job Spot, McFarland, Shafter, Southwest Campus, and Wasco. The starting salary is $66.00/hour, with rates potentially varying based on assignment type and the Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) formula. Refer to the CCA collective bargaining agreement or your college HR office for details.

Representative Duties

This pool will be used to staff assignments across multiple campuses and centers as listed above.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's in art history, history of art and architecture, or visual culture/visual studies, OR
  • Bachelor's in art history and master's in history, OR
  • Master's in art with an emphasis or concentration in art history, OR
  • Equivalent qualifications. Applicants must submit an application for equivalency and supporting documents if applicable.

Additionally, candidates must demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse student backgrounds. Degrees from non-U.S. institutions must be evaluated by a recognized credential evaluation service.

Knowledge & Abilities

The successful applicant will demonstrate broad knowledge in the discipline and the ability to:

  • Work effectively with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds;
  • Develop curriculum for various delivery modalities;
  • Participate in recruitment and articulation activities;
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
  • Maintain current subject matter expertise;
  • Assess student learning outcomes;
  • Utilize computer technologies beneficial to the program;
  • Support the mission of California community colleges.
