Basic Function: Kern Community College District accepts applications for part-time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis to staff the Division of Physical Education and Athletics. Qualified applicants will be contacted by department supervisors when need arises. Applications remain active up to two years.

Representative Duties

This position is a head coaching role for Cross Country within the adjunct pool.

Head Coach For Cross Country

Coaching a diverse student population with varied academic and athletic backgrounds, including evening and Saturday meets/races.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Ability to plan and direct recruitment, conditioning, training, practice, eligibility, and behavioral conduct of athletes.
  • Provide coaching, instructional, and non-instructional services in a diverse campus and community environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and promote an intercollegiate sports program.
  • Evidence of continual professional involvement.
  • Sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Understanding of the advantages and challenges of developing a quality intercollegiate program in a rural community college.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others in a team environment.
  • Ability and willingness to develop relationships with local high school teachers to facilitate recruiting.
  • Willingness to work with students of varying skills, motivation, and goals.
  • Demonstrate versatility in coaching/instructional methodology for a diverse student population.
  • Familiarity with college and Board policies and current guidelines governing college sports (CCCAA, IEAC, NCAA).
  • Willingness to promote Cerro Coso Community College through community service and outreach.
  • Ability and willingness to develop fundraising activities to support the intercollegiate sports program.
Required Licenses
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's License.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience,
OR associate degree and six years of professional experience. Equivalent combinations may be considered. Candidates should submit an Application for Equivalency along with supporting documents.

Demonstrated sensitivity and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Knowledge & Abilities
  • Work effectively with colleagues in an innovative, teaching-focused environment for a diverse student population.
  • Work with students having a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals.
  • Develop curriculum, including delivery via different modalities.
  • Participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Maintain subject matter currency.
  • Assess student learning outcomes.
  • Use computers and explore technologies benefiting the program.
  • Commit to the California community college mission.
