This position is part of an adjunct faculty pool used to staff assignments at multiple Bakersfield Community College campuses, including Main Campus, Delano Campus, Arvin (hub and high school), City Serve, Job Spot, McFarland (adult learning center and high school), Shafter (learning center and high school), Southwest Campus, and Wasco (adult education center and high school). Assignments may be day, evening, or weekend classes;
large classes; distance learning; and other modalities. Duties include maintaining subject‑matter currency, developing and revising curriculum, using computer and multimedia technology, and participating collegially in departmental, college, and discipline‑specific professional activities.
- Bachelor's degree or higher and at least two years of professional experience
- Associate degree and at least six years of professional experience
- Professional experience is required when the applicant holds a master's degree; the experience must be directly related to the teaching assignment
- Equivalent qualifications may be considered provided an Application for Equivalence is submitted with appropriate supporting documents
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
- Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Foreign degrees must be evaluated by a recognized credential‑evaluation service
- Applicants will be screened by a committee; meeting minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview
- Work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population
- Work effectively with students who have a wide range of skills, motivations, and academic and vocational goals
- Develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities
- Participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Maintain subject‑matter currency
- Assess student learning outcomes
- Use computers and be willing to explore new technologies that would benefit the program
- Commit to the California community college mission
