Inside Higher Ed is looking for a Physical Science Instructor to join our part‑time adjunct pool in East Kern, Tehachapi. The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching a full range of Physical Science courses, including Physics, Earth Sciences, and Astronomy, and may teach at other campus sites, in day, evening, weekend, large‑class, or distance‑learning settings.
Basic FunctionKCC District accepts applications for part‑time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. The starting salary range is $67/hour; hourly rate may vary based on type of assignment and the Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) formula.

- Provide instruction in a full range of Physical Science courses, including Physics, Earth Sciences, and Astronomy.
- Teach at other campus sites, day or evening classes, weekend classes, large classes, distance learning and use multiple teaching methodologies.
- Participate in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the Science department.
- Maintain subject‑matter currency, develop and revise curriculum, use computer and multimedia technology.
- Collegial participation in departmental, college and discipline‑specific professional activities.
- Master’s in the physical science interdisciplinary area; or
- Master’s in one of the disciplines included in the interdisciplinary area and upper‑division or graduate coursework in at least one other constituent discipline; or
- Possession of a valid credential which authorizes full‑time teaching of physical science at the California Community College level; or the equivalent.
- A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning and service to a diverse student population.
- Work with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals.
- Develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities.
- Participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges and universities.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Maintain subject‑matter currency.
- Assess student learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit the program.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission.
