Kern Community College District accepts applications for part‑time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. Qualified applicants will be contacted immediately if a need arises. Applications remain active for up to two years.
Representative Duties- Provide instruction in a full range of English and Reading courses.
- Participate in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the English department.
- Maintain subject‑matter currency.
- Develop and revise curriculum.
- Use computer and multimedia technology.
- Participate collegially in departmental, college, and discipline‑specific professional activities.
- Utilize multiple teaching methodologies and teach at other campus sites; days, evenings, weekends, large classes, distance learning, and classes for incarcerated students.
- Master's in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition.
- OR a Bachelor's in any of the above AND a Master's in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing, or journalism.
- OR equivalent education, experience, and accomplishments; request an APPLICATION FOR EQUIVALENCE form.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions; foreign degrees evaluated by an accredited service.
- Work effectively with colleagues in an innovative, teaching‑focused environment.
- Work effectively with students of diverse skills and motivations.
- Develop curriculum, including alternate modalities.
- Participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.
- Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Maintain subject‑matter currency.
- Assess student learning outcomes.
- Apply computer skills and explore new technologies that benefit the program.
- Commit to the California community college mission.
