Position: Driller 1
  • Lead and supervise daily drilling operations to ensure safe, efficient, and productive performance.
  • Operate drilling equipment and monitor drilling parameters to maintain well control and optimize drilling performance.
  • Direct, coordinate, and support the work of the drilling crew, ensuring tasks are completed safely and effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, Cal/OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and industry safety standards.
  • Monitor drilling fluid systems, equipment performance, and well conditions, taking corrective action as needed.
  • Conduct routine inspections and coordinate preventive maintenance of drilling equipment and rig systems.
  • Identify and mitigate operational risks, equipment issues, and safety hazards, reporting concerns promptly.
  • Maintain accurate operational records, drilling reports, and equipment documentation.
  • Lead pre-job safety meetings, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and emergency response activities.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement across the drilling crew.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education, Certificates, Licenses
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license (C, CDL A or

    B) with record that qualifies individual to be an approved company driver issued by the state of residence preferred.
  • Must have a valid Well Control card with certification of completion of required

courses, or be willing to go through the training once employed.

Experience
  • 2 years of progressive experience in Floorhand, Motorhand, Derrickhand and with Relief

Driller experience or 2 years prior Driller experience with another employer.

  • Must have the basic knowledge of the oil field and related equipment associated with the

position. Understands the configuration of various types of Drilling Rigs; understands

the assembly and disassembly of Drilling Rig components, and related functions of the

Drilling Rig.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Critical:

  • Extensive knowledge of drilling operations, well control principles, and rig equipment.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills to safely direct drilling activities and supervise crew workers.
  • Thorough understanding of Cal/OSHA regulations, well control procedures, and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Ability to identify operational risks, respond effectively to emergencies, and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to coordinate multiple operational priorities.

Required:

  • Proficiency in operating drilling equipment and monitoring drilling parameters.
  • Knowledge of drilling fluid systems, preventive maintenance practices, and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Ability to interpret drilling programs, procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to maintain accurate operational records and reports.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, extended hours, and in physically demanding outdoor environments.
  • International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) well control certification.
  • Experience leading drilling crews in oil and gas operations.
  • Knowledge of computerized drilling systems and rig instrumentation.
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills to develop crew performance.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, operational excellence, and safety leadership.
  • Heavy Work
    - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
  • Able to work at heights up to or greater than 50 feet.
  • Exposed to outdoor elements such as extreme heat or cold, heavy winds, rain, or snow.
  • Exposed to loud noise level elements.
