Job SummaryStaff Planner, under the direction of the Chief/Senior Planner, will perform a variety of professional duties in support of current planning and advanced planning and provide assistance to clients / stakeholders on planning related matters.
Staff Planner is responsible for performing professional land use planning activities. This position is an opportunity to be mentored by a higher-level planner with 30+ years of experience with room to grow into advanced Planner positions. Hourly pay range $36 - $44, depending on experience.
Duties/Responsibilities- Prepares land use applications by gathering information on client issues and goals. Advises on project scope and schedule, oversees progress toward assignment completion, responds to public agency comments, and tracks budgets.
- Researches records, files, and documents; analyzes pending legislation.
- Comments on environmental documents; prepares CEQA documents.
- Prepares and gives public presentations including meetings of governing boards and public outreach meetings.
- Maintains file organization for a variety of processes including General Plan Amendments, Zoning Changes, Subdivision Maps, Site Plan Reviews and permitting applications.
- Prepares reports for land development requests.
- Performs other duties of similar nature or level as required.
- Planning principles and theory, including CEQA/NEPA
- Familiarity and interpretation of planning and zoning laws, ordinances, and regulations
- Knowledge of California Subdivision Map Act
- Research methods, record organization, and report writing techniques
- Preparing technical reports and documentation
- Managing projects
- Public speaking skills
- Communicating effectively both orally and in writing to convey information within a work team and with clients and to receive work direction.
Minimum 3 years experience in a staff planner role. Bachelor’s degree in planning or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to obtain the knowledge and skill to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Physical RequirementsAbility to frequently move about inside the office. Must be able to remain in a stationary position throughout much of the working day. Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity equipment. Ability to work outdoors, in varying temperature conditions. Must be able to move items up to 25 lbs.
