Apply for the Senior Archaeologist or Senior Architectural Historian role at GEI Consultants, Inc. This full‑time hybrid office position is based at our Sacramento, Oakland, or Southern California offices.
GEI’s Cultural Resources practice is growing. We seek an experienced professional to support new project opportunities and execute work with scientists, project managers, engineers, planners, and other staff.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties- Lead cultural staff in meeting project technical and financial aspects, including development of field and office schedules.
- Assist administrative aspects of overseeing the cultural resources group, including staff supervision.
- Win, lead, plan, and manage contracts for cultural resources services on water, environmental, and energy projects throughout California and the U.S.
- Serve as project manager and/or task leader and manage the technical, financial, and client relationship aspects of projects.
- Oversee preparation of technical analyses and reports for Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, CEQA, NEPA, and other environmental documents to comply with regulations.
- Identify, evaluate, and solve complex environmental and regulatory issues related to cultural resources.
- Mentor junior and mid‑level staff, working closely with other senior‑level professionals.
- Collaborate with project environmental specialists, engineers, planners, and managers to execute projects.
- Maintain high visibility in the marketplace through client contact, professional organization participation, and presentations.
- Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Serve as a role model for leadership, company culture, and values.
- MA, MS, or Ph.D. in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or Architectural History from an accredited institution.
- 10–15 years of relevant experience in cultural resources compliance, including winning, managing, and executing projects in California.
- Experience strategically planning, leading, and managing cultural resources projects, and preparing related documents.
- Expertise in identifying, evaluating, and solving cultural resources and regulatory issues related to water, environmental, and energy projects.
- Strong reputation for high‑quality work products and regulatory problem solving.
- Business development track record and proposal writing skills.
