Sr. Safety Specialist – West Region (Construction)

AES Clean Energy (AES CE) is seeking a Senior Health & Safety Specialist to support solar and battery energy storage construction projects in the West Region. The specialist will proactively plan, direct, and implement the company’s safety expectations to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident‑free working environment. Responsibilities include overseeing contractor compliance, ensuring adherence to federal, state, county, and local safety regulations, and promoting high‑quality construction safety practices through site visits and audits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with AES Clean Energy’s Construction Management team (CM) to maintain and implement high‑standard H&S programs.
  • Work with the CM team to implement corporate H&S programs on construction projects and improve processes and guidance related to H&S management.
  • Lead activities surrounding H&S incidents and investigations, performing Root Cause Analyses in collaboration with the CM team.
  • Contribute to the development of H&S strategy and action plans to meet targets, reduce risks, and improve performance.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable H&S regulations and requirements.
  • Maintain and continually improve the H&S Management Systems.
  • Develop and deliver H&S related training as needed.
  • Support H&S target attainment in alignment with business objectives.
  • Function as an advisor and technical expert on H&S issues related to construction projects.
  • Participate in and provide input on H&S initiatives.
  • Manage H&S best practices, coordinate with AES global H&S team to implement policies with contractors, and share lessons learned across the organization.
  • Visit project construction sites to conduct H&S inspections and audits.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Key Requirements
  • 3–5 years of related experience.
  • Experience in wind, solar, battery storage construction, electric utility industry, or power generation (preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree in EHS or related field preferred; advanced degree(s) considered.
  • In lieu of a recognized degree, possession of ASP, CSP, CHST, OSHA 510 or 511 certification (preferred).
  • Committed to delivering incident‑free work environments through a quality safety culture and practices.
  • Passion for Health and Safety management.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and influence at all organizational levels.
  • Strong computer and analytical skills.
  • Ability to lead assigned tasks to closure while maintaining professionalism.

  • Excellent organizational, project, planning & time‑management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Collaborative mentality with other teams.

Compensation

The expected salary for this position at commencement of employment ranges between $89,000 and $106,675 annually; base pay may vary based on location, experience, and other factors. Total compensation may include annual bonus and a comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and paid time off).
