GEI has an outstanding senior-level opportunity in California to support our growing cultural resources practice and other environmental services. We are seeking an experienced Senior Archaeologist or Senior Architectural Historian for full-time employment within our Cultural Resources practice. This hybrid office role can be based in our Sacramento, Oakland, or Southern California offices. The position involves working closely with our team of archaeologists and architectural historians to pursue new project opportunities and successfully execute the work.
This position will serve as a key team member working with scientists, project managers, engineers, planners, and other project staff across practices in the company. You will work collaboratively with clients and GEI’s other leaders and experts in the environmental, engineering, and water resources fields. Projects mainly involve water conveyance and storage infrastructure, groundwater recharge, water supply development, water and wastewater treatment, recycled water, ecosystem restoration, and energy and renewable energy development projects, with other types of project support opportunities in the U.S., such as electrical transmission lines and fiber optic cable deployments.
As part of our multidisciplinary project teams, you will have an important role winning, leading, and managing projects; interfacing with existing and new clients to ensure their environmental compliance needs are met; overseeing technical work and document preparation within your area of expertise; and working as part of our team to solve an array of water and environmental issues critical to California’s environmental, water, and energy landscape.
- Lead cultural staff in meeting the technical and financial aspects of projects, including development of field and office schedules and maintaining accountability for deadlines.
- Assist with the administrative aspects of overseeing the cultural resources group, including supervision of staff.
- Win, lead, plan, and manage contracts for cultural resources services on a variety of water resources, environmental resources, and energy projects throughout California and the U.S.
- Serve as project manager and/or task leader and manage the technical, financial, and client relationship aspects of projects.
- Oversee preparation of technical analyses and reports for Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, CEQA, NEPA, and other environmental documents to comply with local, state and federal regulations.
- Identify, evaluate, and solve complex environmental and regulatory issues related to cultural resources management facing our clients.
- Mentor junior and mid-level cultural resources staff and working closely with other senior-level archaeologists and architectural historians.
- As part of integrated teams, work closely and collaboratively with other project environmental specialists, engineers, planners, project managers, and project directors to execute projects.
- Maintain high visibility in the marketplace through regular client contact, participate and encourage active participation in professional organizations, and make presentations at client and industry events.
- Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Serve as a role model for leadership, company culture, and values.
- MA, MS, or Ph.D. in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, Architectural History from an accredited college or university.
- At least 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in cultural resources compliance with increasing responsibilities for winning, managing, and executing cultural resources projects in California.
