Salary: Level I: $1,576.99 - $1,884.65;
Level II: $1,925.18 - $2,300.77, paid bi-weekly
Shift Pay: 5% additional pay for evening shift work; 7.5% additional pay for night shift work. Applicants must be able and willing to work any shift of a 24-hour period and any 5 of 7 days.
Examinations:
Written Exam (100%): May include knowledge of investigative techniques, techniques of obtaining and classifying fingerprints, records, reports, photographic equipment, public relations, and other related subjects.
Minimum Qualifications/Employment Standards:
Level I: Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units of college course work from an accredited college, including courses in Criminal Justice, Computer Technology, Photography or related sciences OR any equivalent combination of education and experience. A maximum of one (1) year of training and/or experience in the field of forensics, evidence collection, latent fingerprint collection, law enforcement, computer technology or photography may substitute for one (1) year of college.
A valid California Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment. The position requires that incumbents be willing to traverse rough terrain and withstand adverse weather conditions; observe autopsies and evidence associated with violent crimes.
Level II: One (1) year of experience equivalent to Crime Scene Technician I in the Kern County classification system. A valid California Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment. The position requires that incumbents be willing to traverse rough terrain and withstand adverse weather conditions; observe autopsies and evidence associated with violent crimes.

This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment(s) will be made at the Kern County Sheriff's Office. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
