Overview
The City of Baldwin Park Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Community Service Officer (CSO). This dynamic, non-sworn role supports public safety efforts through the enforcement of City codes and ordinances related to parking, nuisance abatement, abandoned vehicles, and more. CSOs perform a variety of field and administrative duties including issuing citations, providing traffic control, collecting fees, and assisting the public at the front counter.
The ideal candidates will have strong communication skills, the ability to work independently in varying conditions, and a commitment to community service. The Community Service Officers are required to work varying work schedules depending on the needs of the department, with schedules adjusted periodically. May involve fixed or rotating shifts, including holidays, weekends, evenings, and extended hours when required.
The top step for this position is currently $73,332.12. A 3% COLA in July 2026 will bring the top step to $75,532.08. The Baldwin Park Police Department is dedicated to providing residents with a safe environment to live and work. In addition to regular duties of traffic and law enforcement, the department strives to assess the needs of the City and, working in partnership with area residents, address those concerns.
SummaryUnder general supervision, performs a variety of non-hazardous duties in a non-sworn capacity in support of Police Department operations, services, and functions, including patrol, traffic control, parking enforcement, community policing, records, and investigations; may perform other duties based on department needs and special assignments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provides visible uniformed presence/patrol in City parks and other locations as a crime deterrent; may investigate quality of life complaints and initiate nuisance abatement investigations; cites violators; monitors locations; prepares reports.
- Investigates and completes crime reports in the field when appropriate; prepares reports; investigates selected traffic collisions and other incidents as assigned.
- May investigate cases such as missing persons, adult/juvenile misdemeanor arrests, status offenders, and lost/found property; provides limited advisory assistance and referrals to victims and families.
- Issues parking citations; enforces laws for non-moving vehicles; assists in identifying/removing/impounding stolen or abandoned vehicles; assists stranded motorists; performs traffic control; reports hazards.
- May collect and preserve evidence following established procedures; inventories and tags evidence.
- Conducts Neighborhood Watch and other crime prevention programs; participates in department events; liaises with agencies; creates informational materials and public service announcements as needed.
- Provides information to the public regarding departmental policies; creates records of crime reports and complaints; may testify in court.
- Performs general clerical tasks related to non-hazardous duties, including typing and operating office equipment and a police radio.
- Supports the relationship between the City and the public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior; maintains confidentiality; performs other duties as required.
