Position: Health & Safety Advisor (SHEQ)
SHEQ Advisor | Construction | Northern Ireland Health & Safety is about more than ticking boxes. Looking for a role where you can get out on site, make a real difference and continue developing your career? NOVO People is recruiting a SHEQ Advisor for an established construction business delivering projects across Northern Ireland. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Health & Safety professional who enjoys being close to the action, working alongside site teams and helping improve safety standards across live construction projects.

We're looking for someone with practical construction experience who can combine a hands-on approach to site safety with the ability to support wider Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) activities. If you've gained a couple of years' experience in construction Health & Safety and you're ready to take the next step, this could be a great move. The Opportunity Working closely with the HSEQ Manager, you'll play an important role in supporting Health & Safety, environmental and quality standards across a range of construction projects.

This is a varied position that offers a good balance between time spent on site and involvement in wider SHEQ management systems. You'll engage directly with site managers, subcontractors and operational teams, helping to identify risks, improve working practices and ensure projects are delivered safely. It's an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to build on their construction H&S experience while developing a broader understanding of environmental management, quality systems and ISO standards.

You'll have the opportunity to make a genuine impact while continuing to develop your technical knowledge and professional experience. What You'll Be Doing Carrying out regular site inspections, safety audits and compliance reviews across live construction projects. Working closely with site managers, subcontractors and project teams to promote safe working practices. Supporting the preparation and review of risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), construction-phase plans and safe systems of work.

Monitoring high-risk construction activities, including working at height, lifting operations, excavations, temporary works and mobile plant. Supporting accident and near-miss investigations, identifying root causes and ensuring corrective actions are completed. Reviewing subcontractor safety documentation and assisting with site inductions, toolbox talks and safety briefings. Supporting compliance with construction Health & Safety legislation and CDM requirements. Assisting with environmental compliance, waste management, pollution prevention and site environmental controls.

Helping maintain and improve SHEQ management systems in line with ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001. Supporting internal and external audits, safety reporting and continuous improvement initiatives. What We're Looking For We're particularly interested in speaking with Health & Safety professionals who have gained experience within the construction industry and are looking for an opportunity to take on a varied advisory role.

Ideally, you'll bring: A minimum of 2 years' relevant HSEQ experience, including practical experience on construction sites. A NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction qualification. Be working towards a NEBOSH Diploma, Level 6 NVQ in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent. A good working understanding of construction Health & Safety legislation and CDM requirements. Experience carrying out site inspections, preparing or reviewing RAMS and supporting incident investigations.

The confidence to engage with site teams, managers and subcontractors, providing practical advice and constructively challenging unsafe practices. Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities. A full driving licence and willingness to travel regularly between project locations.

Experience with ISO management systems, internal auditing or digital construction platforms such as Procore would be advantageous, but isn't essential. Why Consider This Opportunity? Hands-on construction experience work directly with site teams across live projects rather than spending every day behind a desk.

Career development a great opportunity to build your experience and develop further within the SHEQ profession. Broader SHEQ exposure develop your knowledge across Health & Safety, environmental management and quality systems.…
