A leading UK electrical engineering provider specialising in end-to-end services across low to high-voltage power networks (LV to 400kV). Their expertise covers the design, installation, commissioning, maintenance and fault response of electrical infrastructure, including substations, switch gear and protection systems.

Engineering Technicians

Responsibilities
  • As an Engineering Technician at XXXXX, you will play a crucial role in our electrical projects, with a focus on high-voltage equipment and systems. You will be responsible for assisting engineers in the delivery of all aspects of the company's engineering activities.
  • The role of an engineering technician is a development role and appointees to these positions are expected to work towards the position of an engineer with a specialism in one of the key areas (construction, commissioning, senior authorised person) of company operations.
  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and testing of High Voltage equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Carry out mechanical and electrical assembly of High Voltage equipment including switch gear, control and protection apparatus, transformers.
  • Assist experienced commissioning engineers and senior authorised persons in the execution of their duties.
  • Conduct inspections and test activities under guidance of experienced engineers.
  • Strictly adhere to safety protocols and regulations, always prioritising the safety of yourself and your colleagues.
  • Maintain accurate records of assembly, installation, maintenance, and testing activities, including relevant test results and documentation of any modifications made to HV systems.
  • Stay informed about industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to high-voltage equipment and systems, ensuring that all work complies with these standards.
  • Provide standby cover as required.
Qualifications
  • Possess a minimum of NVQ Level 2 qualification or its equivalent
  • Demonstrate a successful track record of working with distribution transformers, switch gear, substation earthing systems, and battery tripping units in high-voltage applications.
  • Experience in one or more of the following activities essential:
  • installation of HV switch gear
  • Transformers
  • Control and protection panels
  • Multicores & Containment
  • Prioritise safety in all aspects of work, with knowledge of electrical safety regulations and best practices.
  • Possess experience working on leading Switchgear and Transformer manufacturers HV Switchgear product ranges. These should include, but not limited to:
    Lucy Electric, Schneider Electric, Brush, Siemens, GE, HSS etc
  • Experience in HV inspections and maintenance of DNO, IDNO and private distribution network substations and associated equipment
  • Experience at 33kV and above highly desirable
  • Experience in basic protection testing is desirable
  • Experience working for DNO, IDNO or transmission networks desirable
  • Show an understanding of DNO, IDNO and VPEL Distribution Safety Rules
