Our Global client is at the forefront of the global energy transition, delivering some of the most complex and high-profile power infrastructure projects across the UK and Europe. As the companies Energy & Power portfolio continues to expand, they are appointing a Director – Cable System Design to provide senior technical leadership across critical transmission, HVDC and energy storage programmes.

This role is designed for an established industry leader who combines deep technical authority in HV/EHV cable systems with the ability to influence strategy, shape delivery, and mentor future technical leaders.

As a Director, you will:

• Act as a technical authority for HV/EHV and HVDC cable systems across major UK and European projects.
• Shape cable system strategy from early concept through FEED, detailed design and delivery.
• Provide senior assurance, design governance and independent technical challenge on complex projects.
• Influence project outcomes through close engagement with clients, regulators, contractors and OEMs.
• Lead and develop high-performing engineering teams, embedding best practice and technical excellence.
• Contributing to a wider energy transition strategy, innovation agenda and knowledge networks.
• Strategic leadership of HV/EHV cable system design (132kV–400kV) for HVAC and HVDC schemes.
• Oversight of technical quality, risk management and compliance (CDM, legislation, client standards).
• Ownership of cable system specifications, design standards and assurance processes.
• Senior technical input into bids, estimates and project strategies.
• Representation of our client at senior client, partner and industry forums.
• Mentorship of senior and early-career engineers, building long-term capability within the business.

• Extensive experience in HV/EHV cable system design, ideally within UK transmission environments.
• Proven leadership of FEED and detailed design for complex cable schemes.
• Advanced understanding of HVDC and HVAC systems, including thermal, EMF and sheath calculations.
• Experienced user of CYMCAP and COMSOL for cable system analysis.
• Strong knowledge of National Grid and DNO standards and delivery models.

• Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Chartered Engineer (IET) or working towards chartership.
• Recognised as a subject matter expert within the cable systems discipline.
• Confident operating at Director level with clients, partners and internal stakeholders.
