Mechanical Design Engineer

Dowds are looking for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Ballymena office and work across major projects in Energy, Healthcare, Higher Education, Commercial, Life Sciences and FM, typically valued £5m–£35m.

In this role, you’ll develop high‑quality mechanical and MEP designs from concept through to installation and handover. You’ll collaborate with internal teams, consultants, contractors and clients to deliver safe, coordinated, compliant and cost‑effective engineering solutions.

You’ll be part of a team known for innovation, digital engineering and 48 years of engineering delivery across NI and the UK.

• Deliver and review mechanical & MEP designs (HVAC, plant rooms, PH, LPHW/CHW, piping, sprinklers, BMS etc.)
• Coordinate mechanical/electrical interfaces and ensure full MEP integration
• Lead design reviews, mentor junior engineers and manage consultant outputs
• Ensure compliance with CIBSE, BSRIA, HTMs, British Standards, Building Regs and CDM
• Support BIM workflows – Revit/AutoCAD/Navisworks, clash detection and DfMA
• Produce technical reports, calculations, schedules and tender documentation
• Provide engineering support through construction, commissioning and handover

• Strong understanding of HVAC/mechanical principles
• Ability to review drawings/models;
  Revit preferred
• Experience across RIBA/BSRIA stages
• Strong planning, coordination and commercial awareness
• Knowledge of CIBSE, BSRIA, BS, CDM, BREEAM and Building Regulations
• MEP multidisciplinary background
• Exposure to DfMA/offsite/modular solutions
