Shift Maintenance Engineer

Location:
Ballymena

Salary: £50,000 - £55,000

Job Type: Full-Time | Permanent

Shift Pattern: 5-Week Rotating Days & Nights (12-hour shifts)

VANRATH are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a leading manufacturing business for a Maintenance Engineer to join their engineering team in Ballymena.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced maintenance engineer to join a highly automated production environment where you'll play a key role in maximising equipment performance, improving reliability, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you'll be responsible for ensuring production equipment and site services are maintained to the highest standard, helping minimise downtime and maximise operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across production equipment and site services.
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults, carrying out repairs efficiently to minimise downtime.
  • Perform routine servicing, adjustments and overhauls on production machinery.
  • Support continuous improvement projects to enhance equipment reliability and performance.
  • Ensure machinery is correctly set up, maintained and operating safely.
  • Assist with the installation and commissioning of new plant and equipment.
  • Complete general maintenance of site facilities and building fabric.
  • Monitor and maintain mechanical and electrical utilities across the site.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records using the site's maintenance systems.
  • Work collaboratively with production teams to improve plant performance.
About You

We're looking for a proactive engineer who enjoys problem solving and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

You’ll ideally have:
  • A completed engineering apprenticeship or recognised engineering qualification.
  • At least 3 years' post-apprenticeship experience within a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong fault-finding skills across mechanical and/or electrical systems.
  • Experience carrying out preventative and reactive maintenance on automated production equipment.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement and equipment reliability.
  • An electrical bias would be advantageous, although mechanically biased engineers with strong electrical fault-finding experience are also encouraged to apply.
