Company and Role of R&D Engineer

Vickerstock are recruiting for an experienced R&D Engineer on behalf of an established engineering and manufacturing business within the Mid Ulster area.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Engineer with a strong mechanical design and product development background who wants to take greater ownership of new product development and engineering improvement projects.

Working within an experienced Engineering team, you will be involved in developing new products and engineering solutions from initial concept through detailed design, development and introduction into manufacture.

The role offers a strong combination of mechanical design, new product development, practical engineering and problem solving, with the opportunity to see your work progress from an initial engineering concept through to a completed manufactured product.

Key Responsibilities for this R&D Engineer position

Design and develop new products, components and mechanical engineering solutions
Take engineering concepts through detailed design and into manufacture
Produce 3D CAD models, assemblies, engineering drawings and associated technical documentation
Develop and improve existing products in response to engineering, manufacturing and customer requirements
Work closely with Manufacturing throughout the development and introduction of new designs
Support prototype, testing and product validation activities
Investigate engineering problems and develop practical design solutions
Review materials, components and manufacturing methods during product development
Support engineering design reviews and product improvement projects
Identify opportunities to improve product performance, manufacturability, quality and cost
Provide technical support during the introduction of new products into production

Essential Criteria for this R&D Engineer position

A minimum of 3 years previous experience within R&D Engineering, Mechanical Design, Product Development or a similar engineering position
Strong mechanical design and 3D CAD capability
Experience developing products, machinery, equipment or fabricated assemblies within a manufacturing environment
Ability to produce and interpret engineering drawings and technical information
Good understanding of practical manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacture
Experience taking designs from concept through to manufacture
A third-level qualification within Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Manufacturing Engineering or another relatable Engineering discipline
Strong technical and practical problem-solving ability

Experience with in fabrication, heavy engineering, machinery, equipment or another complex engineering manufacturing environment would be particularly relevant, although candidates from other manufacturing sectors will also be considered.
