Job Description
Responsible to:
Cleaning Supervisor or other authorised person.
Undertake, as part of a team, the cleaning of any area within the premises, designated by the line manager.
Responsibilities- Sweep, suction clean, mop, dry buff, spray clean, spray wax, machine scrub, dry, strip and re‑polish floors using appropriate equipment.
- Clean and remove stains of soft floor surfaces (carpets/matting) using the appropriate cleaning method.
- Clean toilet and shower areas, including fixtures and fittings.
- Clean, wash and dust ledges, walls, fixtures, fittings and internal surfaces up to 3.35 m; polish furniture where appropriate.
- Empty and clean internal litter bins and remove litter to the designated collection points.
- Carry out all duties in compliance with the Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978;
Acts of Parliament, Statutory Instruments and Regulations and other legal requirements; COSHH Regulations;
Codes of Practice. - Cover colleagues on sick leave in line with the Education Authority’s procedure.
- Report absences in line with the Education Authority’s procedure and complete all relevant forms.
- Wear protective clothing or work wear, flat‑soled enclosed‑toe footwear and any issued cleaning equipment as required.
- Use and care for all issued cleaning equipment; report any defects immediately.
- Complete all necessary paperwork.
- Perform duties up to and including those in the same grade, provided they are within the employee’s competence.
Employees will accept training for any duties graded at a higher level than their own. Payment is made only when higher‑level duties are required by the authority. Training includes induction and refresher training.
Essential Criteria- Access to a suitable vehicle (appropriately maintained and insured for Education Authority business) or a suitable alternative form of transport.
- Experience and knowledge of cleaning methods, machinery and the use of cleaning chemicals.
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements relevant to the role, including COSHH.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet specific deadlines, and use own initiative.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate and take instruction in English.
- Effective organisation and planning skills.
- Ability to work as a member of a team.
- Flexible approach to work and willingness to carry out instruction.
- Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Three months’ experience of cleaning outside a home environment.
- Demonstrable experience of using a range of commercial cleaning tools (e.g. buffing machinery).
An Enhanced Disclosure of Criminal Background is required for regulated activity. Candidates will bear the cost of the certificate.
