DOHERTY & GRAY BALLYMENA SITE YARD PERSON REQUIRED - FULL TIME - PERMANENT POSITION A Yard Person (or Yard Operative) - responsible for maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and organisation of an outdoor commercial facility, depot, yard. Handle incoming deliveries, manage stock levels, and operate heavy machinery like forklifts to transport materials safely. Job Overview The Yard Person ensures the smooth, efficient daily operations of the facilitys outdoor grounds and storage spaces. They act as a critical link between logistics and inventory management. The position is highly active, requires working in all weather conditions, and involves constant coordination with drivers and production staff.
Key Responsibilities Inventory & Logistics Loading/Unloading:
Safely load and off-load delivery lorries, delivery vehicles. Stock Checks:
Monitor incoming stock, check items against delivery notes, and report missing or damaged goods. Order Preparation:
Retrieve, sort, and bundle specific products to fulfil site requirements. Material Movement:
Organise materials logically into designated racks or storage areas for fast retrieval. Site Maintenance & Safety
Housekeeping: Keep the yard organised, clear walkways of obstructions, and sweep areas to maintain a tidy workplace. Waste Management:
Sort recyclable components, clear debris, and empty industrial waste bins regularly. Basic Maintenance:
Perform minor property tasks, including grass trimming, weeding, facility upkeep, and cleaning equipment. Equipment Operation Machinery Control:
Safely manoeuvre material handling equipment. Pre-use Inspections:
Run daily safety checks on forklifts and report any visible faults to the manager. Required
Skills & Qualifications Licensing: A valid Counterbalance Forklift Certificate is desirable but the right candidate will receive training and licence. Physical Stamina:
Capability to lift heavy loads (often up to 25kg/50lbs) and stand or walk for the entire shift duration. Health & Safety Awareness:
Strong familiarity with safe manual handling procedures and hazard recognition. Basic Literacy & Numeracy:
Competency in checking delivery sheets and keeping simple digital records.
Recording traceability records. Work Environment Weather Exposure:
Work takes place almost exclusively outdoors, exposing the employee to rain, wind, heat, and cold temperatures. Uniform & PPE:
Mandatory use of Personal Protective Equipment, including steel-toed boots, high-visibility jackets, gloves, and hard hats
