The Office of the Public Defender in Baltimore County, Towson, Maryland is seeking applicants who can provide excellent customer service both in person and over the phone. The primary responsibility for this position is to be the point of first contact for clients, families, and members of the court. This position will be assisting attorneys with client communications. Additionally, another primary responsibility of this position is to support the attorneys by downloading discovery, filing and general office duties.
Additionally, this position will provide assistance with data entry and other clerical duties. This position will require use of our internal database (eDefender) and use of various judiciary websites (MDEC, Case search, Jportal). Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Main Purpose of JobThis Office Clerk II position is responsible for our reception area. Primary responsibilities for this position include answering phone calls, routing phone calls, distribution of information to external customers, greeting walk-in customers to our reception area. Other clerical duties such as typing, data entry and filing will be secondary responsibilities of this position. Employees in this classification do not supervise.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation:
Completion of the eighth grade.
Experience:
One year experience performing clerical duties in an office environment. Notes:
- Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate may be substituted for six months of the required experience.
- Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, data base, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for six months of the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
Excellent communication, customer service and computer skills. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and experience working with diverse populations. High School Diploma or GED.

SELECTION PROCESSApplicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be admitted to the examination for this classification. Successful candidates will be ranked as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, OR QUALIFIED and placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.
