Are you ready to take on a career where your work directly impacts the lives of thousands of Marylanders every day? Do you thrive in fast-paced environments, enjoy solving real-time challenges, and feel motivated by meaningful public service?

If so, the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) wants you on our team.

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Board Coordinator provides centralized administrative, operational, and governance support to the Baltimore Core Transit Service Board and the Commuter Services Board. The position manages the full board-meeting lifecycle; maintains official board records; coordinates public notices, accessibility, language access, ethics, and records-retention requirements; prepares executive-level materials and briefings; and tracks decisions, approvals, and follow-up actions.

The work supports consistent governance practices while recognizing the distinct statutory responsibilities, operating priorities, and decision calendars of each board. The position exercises independent judgment in organizing work, identifying issues requiring executive attention, and coordinating timely responses across MTA offices and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities while working with board members, executive leadership, and internal stakeholders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manages Board and Committee Operations: Oversees the full meeting cycle for both boards and their committees, including annual calendars, scheduling, logistics, agendas, meeting materials, minutes, action summaries, and tracking decisions and follow-up items through completion.
  • Ensures Governance, Compliance & Accessibility: Coordinates board operations in accordance with applicable open meetings, public notice, records retention, ethics, ADA, Title VI, and MTA requirements; identifies deficiencies and escalates legal or policy matters as appropriate.
  • Serves as Executive & Board Liaison: Acts as the central point of coordination among board members, Deputy Administrators, the MTA Administrator, executive leadership, and internal offices; manages briefings, correspondence, competing priorities, deadlines, and cross-functional commitments.
  • Coordinates Board Materials & Stakeholder Engagement: Manages the development, review, and routing of budgets, plans, policies, resolutions, presentations, and other board actions while coordinating public comments, accommodations, language services, stakeholder inquiries, board-member onboarding, tours, travel, and related activities.
  • Manages Records, Reporting & Process Improvement: Maintains document-control, meeting-management, and action-tracking systems; develops status reports and dashboards; and recommends process and technology improvements to enhance accuracy, timeliness, transparency, and continuity of board operations.

The position supports two independent boards in a large, safety-sensitive, geographically dispersed transit organization. The work requires discretion with confidential and pre-decisional information; strong written communication; accurate preparation of minutes, resolutions, executive briefings, and official records; and sufficient knowledge of public-sector governance, transportation operations, and administrative practices to recognize issues requiring executive, legal, civil-rights, ethics, records, or fiscal review.
