• Break significant sports news, from Orioles headlines to high‑profile local events.
• Serve as the backup Orioles reporter, traveling to ~35 % of away games and attending ~60 % of home games.
• Produce compelling features, profiles, and enterprise pieces that reveal the “why” behind the action.
• Monitor the local sports scene, uncovering stories readers want, staying current on local stars such as Angel Reese and Gervonta Davis.
• Collaborate with the Banner’s engagement and data teams to maximize audience reach across platforms.
• Partner with editors and reporters across coverage areas where sports intersect business, culture, and community.
• Engage audiences via video, podcasts, and social media to build a vibrant, interactive connection with readers.

• 2+ years of professional journalism experience, ideally covering sports.
• Storytelling ability – make complex topics compelling and accessible.
• Proven ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment with meticulous accuracy.
• Strong news judgment and understanding of reader interest.
• Collaborative, adaptable, and energized by working with newsroom teams.
• Comfortable working nights and weekends.
• Strategic and organized with excellent planning and time‑management skills.
• Data‑and‑social‑media savvy to grow digital audiences; knowledge of SEO.
• Data reporting skills or Spanish language ability are a plus.
• Commitment to journalistic integrity, ethics, and audience trust.

$60,000 – $80,000, subject to experience and internal equity.
