About the Role

Baltimore has an immediate opening for a News Photographer Part‑Time, Temporary / Per Diem / Freelance (Non‑Staff). The ideal Photojournalist must be multi‑skilled and independent, capable of completing assignments alone or with partners. Technically skilled with a willingness to learn new technologies, they should collaborate well with award‑winning staff, and view on‑air, production, and engineering colleagues as partners striving for station success.

Photographers cover news stories and events by shooting compelling pictures, editing creatively, and serving on‑air and digital audiences with reliable, technically skilled live remotes. A successful candidate captures compelling visuals and audio at the speed of news with a “can‑do” attitude and drive.

Baltimore is a fast‑paced, news‑soaked city, sandwiched between DC and Philadelphia. WJZ is a long‑time market leader.

• Safely & competently operate news gathering equipment including cameras, light kits, microphones, and tripods. Sony XD camera experience is effective; P2 and JVC camera experience is acceptable.
• Edit content quickly and accurately in‑house or in the field—Edius experience is a definite plus, but Premiere, Final Cut, and Avid expertise are all qualifying skills.
• Proficiently use GoPro cameras and incorporate them into daily storytelling.
• FAA Part 107 Commercial Drone certified is a big plus; we will invest in certification if not already obtained.
• Follow CBS and OSHA safety standards.

• Excellent technical and creative skills; at WJZ that includes phenomenal lighting of interviews and live shots.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑stakes, tight‑deadline environment.
• A self‑starter and competitor, with excellent people and organizational skills.
• Strong work ethic, positive disposition & leadership qualities with the ability to multi‑task.
• Must be able to lift, handle, and work with at least 50 pounds of equipment.
• Work assigned schedules which may include early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
• Dejero, Live‑U and/or TVU live operations experience is required.
• ENG & SNG Live Truck experience preferred but not required.
• Must have or be eligible to acquire, and maintain, a valid Maryland driver’s license.
