Position

The Department of Radiation Oncology of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, ranked top 5th in NIH research funding, is recruiting for a Radiation Oncologist at the Assistant/Associate/Professor level. The department provides Radiation Oncology services at several practice settings and has a need for a full‑time faculty physician scientist. The ideal candidate will have a track record of continuous and/or renewal of extramural/industry funding and have an active clinical practice.

Based on the candidate’s experience, the opportunity to hold a departmental leadership position, such as Vice‑Chair, could be made available.

Clinical Settings and Facilities

The Department of Radiation Oncology’s clinical program has twenty (20) physicians. The main patient care facility is at the University of Maryland Medical Center in downtown Baltimore, within the University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center, and is close to the main attractions of the Inner Harbor waterfront and professional sports stadiums. We provide patient care in eight (8) locations in Maryland;

the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) and the Maryland Proton Treatment Center (MPTC) in downtown Baltimore, the Central Maryland Radiation Oncology Center (CMROC) in Columbia, the Tate Cancer Center at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM‑BWMC) in Glen Burnie, the Kaufman Cancer Center at University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD (UM‑UCMC), the Requard Radiation Oncology Center at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center (UM‑SRMC) in Easton, MD, the Radiation Oncology Center at the University of Maryland St Joseph Medical Center (UM‑SJMC) in Towson, and the Center for Advanced Medicine at the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center (UM–CRMC) in Upper Marlboro, MD.

There is a prospect that we may offer professional services in other locations in the future. Our current clinical program has fourteen (14) linear accelerators, a research linear accelerator, eight (8) multi‑slice large bore CT simulators, a proton center with four (4) active treatment rooms, Gamma Pod, five (5) HDR units, an MRI and active programs in Hyperthermia Therapy, Brachytherapy, SRS/SBRT, radiopharmaceuticals and Radio‑embolization.

There are several campus‑wide shared resources including small‑animal imaging CT, PET and MR scanners. There are twelve (12) medical residents and three (3) medical physics residents.

Research Facilities

Medical Physics led by Dr. Amit Sawant, has thirty three (33) medical physics faculty, twenty six (26) dosimetrists, three (3) physics residents, post‑doctoral fellows, graduate students, and six (6) information systems and technology staff. All practice sites are connected via a state‑of‑the‑art telemedicine network facilitating interactions between faculty and staff. Research programs include the development of new treatment planning and delivery techniques, tumor motion management, inter‑fraction image guidance strategies, two SARRPs and research vaults dedicated to photon and proton related research.

The division of medical physics has research space co‑located with DTRS. The department occupies >20,000 sq. ft. of purpose‑built, fully renovated, access‑controlled wet laboratory, animal research and dry lab space for successful execution of translational radiobiological/physics research.

Salary Range. Min; $287,100 Max; $622,000

The referenced salary range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. This salary range does not include all components of the Radiation Oncology faculty compensation program or pay from participation in Radiation Oncology variable compensation programs.
