Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School is seeking an experienced and innovative Learning Technologist to join the Carey Learning Technology Group (CTG) within Teaching and Learning (T&L). We are an analytical, creative, and entrepreneurial group who, when we see a need, have the freedom and flexibility to make meaningful changes. CTG works closely with the T&L instructional designers, staff, faculty and programs that utilize the LMS.
The Learning Technologist (LT) must be well versed in best practices with academic LMS's (specifically Canvas), Learning Technology Interoperability (LTI), LMS Analytics, and be adept at learning new technologies quickly with limited supervision. In this role you may also design, develop and facilitate deliver training or informational session with Carey faculty and staff. LT's provide support for the LMS and its available tools, and will need to facilitate trouble-shooting, reporting and documenting as well as general course maintenance tasks like, uploading materials, fixing links, tests or and fixing quiz times in Canvas.
LT's, like all of the Carey T&L staff, work in a collaborative and congenial manor with all of the Carey stake holders to create the best user experience possible for students, learning and faculty.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities- Course Development, Innovation, and Improvement Support and Consultation (30%)
- Develops and test new technologies independently or in collaboration with others.
- Provides technical direction to team members and faculty to make best practice technology usage decisions for engaging online courses.
- Consults with faculty, teaching assistants, and teaching consultants on a variety of instructional technologies such as, Canvas, Turn It In , Microsoft Teams, Voicethread, Zoom, Poll Everywhere, Perusall. New Learning Interoperability Tools are added regularly and staying current with these tools is essential to duties in section B of this job description.
- Recommends, assist and support faculty in effectively integrating instructional technologies in face-to-face, online, and hybrid courses.
- Assists in technological aspects of new faculty and staff onboarding process.
- Assists faculty in developing reusable learning objects (Videos, lecture capture etc.) and integrating them into their courses.
Support and Training (35%)
- Provides services in instructional technologies such as uploading materials, fixing links, fixing quiz times in Canvas.
- Provides support for instructional technologies such as Canvas, Turn It In , Microsoft Teams, Remote Proctor Now, Zoom, Poll Everywhere to teaching assistants and faculty during the term.
- Provides faculty, program managers, staff, and teaching assistants with needed trouble shooting, service done for them, or training.
- Trains teaching teams in one-on-one or small group meetings during the term.
- Troubleshoots technical problems during the term.
- Works with other Hopkins schools and Central IT in solving technological issues as related to Canvas and other shared learning resources as directed by LMS manager.
- Assists in testing new features and piloting new solutions in conjunction with other Johns Hopkins University (JHU) schools.
- Assumes an admin/leadership role on eLearning tools as assigned.
- Keeps abreast of developments of related instructional technologies.
- Researches and disseminates educational technology resources and best practices in technology enhanced teaching and learning.
- Designs, develops and delivers training workshops to introduce faculty, TAs, students, and staff to the emerging instructional technologies and their effective application in teaching and learning.
- Develops training assets in mixed media formats.
