Johns Hopkins University has made amajor new investment in Data Science and AI. The investment will add 150 new faculty positions, including 30 Bloomberg Distinguished Professorships. The University has established a new Data Science and AI Institute (DSAI Institute). A new half-million square foot building and an unparalleled computational infrastructure is being constructed. This expansion will establish Johns Hopkins as one of the largest and leading engineering schools with a top AI research program.

The expansion will double the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics from 20 full-time regular faculty in 2023 to 40 by 2028.

This search is to fill faculty positions in the DSAI Institute. We invite applications for tenured or tenure-track faculty positions in all areas of the Mathematical Sciences. The successful candidate will have a tenure home in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics (and possibly another Whiting School of Engineering department) and will support one or more of the following cross-departmental DSAI clusters:

DSAI Clusters
  • Foundational methods of Machine Learning, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence
  • Health and Medicine
  • Scientific Discovery
  • Engineered AI systems
  • People, Policy, Governance, and Ethics of AI
  • Security and Safety of Autonomous Systems

Preference will be given to candidates whose research has made an impact on data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Outstanding candidates at all academic ranks will be considered. We anticipate making multiple offers.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or related fields, and will be expected to establish a strong, independent, multidisciplinary, and internationally recognized research program. Compensation

The expected salary range for this position is:
Assistant Professors $150k-$200k, Associate Professors $180k-$245k, Full Professors $200k-$450k, for 12-month FTE. The referenced salary range is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will be based on factors including, but not limited to, the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate (years in rank, training, field, discipline, other work experience, and other similar factors);

geographic location; internal equity; external market conditions; and other factors as reasonably determined by the University.

The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.
