Job DescriptionWSP is currently seeking a Water/Wastewater Lead Design Engineer for our Baltimore, MD office. The ideal candidate will lead the assessment, design, and planning of water, wastewater, and stormwater projects, including infrastructure design, rehabilitation, treatment facilities, and drainage systems.
Responsibilities- Conduct high-level professional water resources engineering work, including investigations, analysis, and inspections of water/wastewater infrastructure, water supply/quality management, stormwater facilities, culverts, hydrology, open channel hydraulics, bridge hydraulics, floodplain mapping, and environmental restoration.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to address environmental issues.
- Perform concept-level design of treatment works and analyze hydrologic and hydraulic models for stormwater, watershed planning, stream restoration, and water quality studies.
- Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a professional manner.
- Oversee and monitor cross‑functional teams on mid‑level projects, including budgets, hours, expenses, and task completion.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary professionals to deliver client‑ready solutions.
- Remain current with the latest water resources engineering techniques.
- Exercise responsible decision‑making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- 10–15 years of post‑education experience in water/wastewater engineering and/or water resources.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Proficiency in CADD production and civil design software (Micro Station Power InRoads/Open Roads, AutoCAD Civil 3D).
- Experience with hydraulic design for pipes, channels, pump stations, and water treatment plants.
- Experience with water/wastewater process modeling.
- Knowledge of GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- Excellent critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills.
- Track record of coordinating subcontractors and completing tasks safely and efficiently.
- Commitment to workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, and harassment policies.
- Willingness to travel and work outside typical hours as required.
- Master’s degree in a related discipline.
- PE license in Maryland, Virginia, or D.C., or ability to obtain one within 6 months.
- Active membership in professional societies.
- PMP certification.
Expected Salary (all locations): $98,300 – $175,230.
