An Engineer II assigns and reviews the work of engineers or performs engineering work of an innovative, complex nature. Work of this class may involve leading engineers and supervising sub‑professional engineering and other personnel. Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office where there are no uncomfortable working conditions.
Work requires minimal physical exertion.

Minimum Qualifications- Education: Bachelor's of Science degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Experience: Three years of experience in performing engineering work.
- Equivalency Notes: A master's degree in engineering may be substituted for the Bachelor of Science degree or for two years of experience.
- Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates: Engineer‑In‑Training certificate, Engineering Technologist certification, Professional Engineer license, Maryland Class C Non‑Commercial driver's license.
- Knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
- Knowledge of the methods of engineering analysis.
- Ability to develop engineering plans, designs, specifications and material and cost estimates.
- Ability to assign, review and approve the work of engineering personnel.
- Ability to write technical reports.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing.
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint successfully completed.
ProbationAll persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six‑month probation.
EligibilityQualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
