Job DescriptionMcCormick Taylor is seeking a Transportation Designer to join our Baltimore, MD office. The primary duties of the Transportation Designer are to serve in a technical role under the direction of a Project Engineer/Manager on the engineering development of various transportation projects. Projects may include the preliminary and final engineering of roadway/transportation improvements, intersection design, ADA & bicycle facility design, site development improvements, transit facilities, as well as field visits and inspections.
Responsibilities- Perform engineering calculations
- Develop roadway/transportation improvements, intersection design, ADA design, bicycle facility design, site improvements, and transit facilities
- 2D and 3D modeling
- Develop quantities, cost estimating, and specification writing
- Attend internal and external client meetings
- Work under the guidance of experienced project engineers/managers
- Ability to work on multiple design projects concurrently
- Flexibility to work with other disciplines to provide support when needed
- Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction, including plans, specifications, and cost estimates
- Knowledge of transportation design elements, standards, and constructability methods
- 0-4 plus years of experience in the design of highway/roadway, civil engineering and transportation projects for Maryland counties and local municipalities
- Efficient with Microsoft Office including Word and Excel
- B.S. in Civil Engineering
- Strong communications and technical writing skills
- Ability to work on multiple assignments
- Willing and capable of occasional field work and having a valid driver's license
- EI certification preferred
- Working knowledge of Micro Station, AutoCAD, InRoads, and Open Roads is a plus
- Flexible and willing to learn and grow in different directions
- Take ownership of their own work
- Adaptable and able to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment
