The Opportunity

Our Sales and Use Tax Lookback Review COE is a national team that leads large multi‑state sales and use tax recovery projects for EY’s largest clients. It’s here you’ll find everything you need to continue developing as a multi‑state, sales and use tax practitioner. It’s all about taking on new skills and responsibilities as they arise and making the most of our dedicated mentors and training programs.

Key Responsibilities

As a Sales and Use Tax Manager you will work on a diverse array of projects, responsibilities, and tasks. You will provide up‑to‑the‑minute tax advice to clients and collaborate closely with colleagues in a highly collaborative culture.

Skills and Attributes for Success
  • Researching client business operations and building long‑lasting relationships.
  • Identifying applicable sales and use tax exemptions and exclusions.
  • Identifying potential over payment opportunities or risks and communicating these to clients.
  • Monitoring current tax law changes to maintain credibility as a trusted advisor.
  • Developing clear, intelligent plans and approaches for sales and use tax recoveries.
  • Preparing and defending sales and use tax refund claims.
  • Participating on a motivated team of professionals.
  • Managing a motivated team, guaranteeing they have the skills, knowledge and opportunities to reach their full potential.
To Qualify for the Role
  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline.
  • Professional knowledge in a broad range of sales and use tax processes, concepts and tools.
  • Experience managing budgets, people and projects.
  • A proven record of excellence in a professional services or tax organization.
  • Technical writing and research experience in a tax context.
  • The ability to prioritize when working on multiple complex projects.
  • Strong influencing skills and confidence to question existing processes.
  • Willingness to travel as needed and work in a balanced hybrid environment.
You’ll Also Have
  • An achieved CPA qualification, certification as a member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, CMI designation, or membership in a state bar.

  • Our team‑led and leader‑enabled hybrid model requires most external roles to work together in person 40–60% of the time.
