Introduction
Maryland 529 is a two‑program college savings plan that includes the Maryland College Investment Plan (MCIP) and the Maryland ABLE Program. The MCIP offers a variety of investment options to help families meet future education goals. The ABLE Program provides people with disabilities a method to save and invest without jeopardizing need‑tested benefits. All programs are overseen by the Maryland State Treasurer’s Office.

Location of PositionThis part‑time position serves as an ambassador to promote MD 529 programs throughout central Maryland, including Baltimore, Baltimore County, Howard, Anne Arundel, Prince George’s, and Montgomery County. The State Treasurer’s Office is located in Annapolis, MD; the Maryland 529 division is located in Baltimore, MD.
Main Purpose of JobThe ambassador will market the MCIP and MD ABLE investment savings programs through public relations activities such as conferences, workshops, expos, and community fairs. The ambassador will deliver clear presentations to school systems and service provider agencies and distribute informational materials in accordance with the MD 529 program.
Position DutiesThe ambassador will:
- Promote MD 529 programs throughout central Maryland.
- Attend assigned conferences, workshops, expos, and community fairs.
- Deliver presentations to school systems and service provider agencies.
- Distribute informational or promotional MD 529 materials.
- Travel to Washington, DC and to eastern, western, and southern Maryland as required.
- Maintain a schedule of outreach activities and adhere to a maximum of 300 hours per year.
Experience:
Six years of experience in public information, public relations, journalism, or related promotional work.
Education:
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least 30 semester credit hours in one or more of the following subjects:
English, journalism, public relations, writing, or related areas.
Military: U.S. Armed Forces commissioned officer experience in public affairs or a year‑for‑year substitution for the required experience.
Desired orPreferred Qualifications
- Experience presenting to both large and small groups.
- Experience serving as an ambassador for a program, company, or product.

Special RequirementsCandidates will undergo a background investigation, including credit and criminal history. Employees assigned duties requiring operation of a motor vehicle must possess a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator’s license. If a license is not held, the employee will be responsible for transportation to and from events with presentation materials.
