Position Overview

Evaluates drugs prescribed by physicians for appropriateness of dose, therapeutic efficacy, allergy, drug interaction, and contraindications. Maintains accurate and complete documentation of all medication-related activities to ensure proper distribution. All responsibilities are subject to review by a licensed pharmacist.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in achieving department goals under supervision, adhering to policies, procedures, quality, and safety standards, and complying with regulations.
  • Help prepare reports by compiling information.
  • Support troubleshooting and maintenance of automated drug distribution systems and serve as a resource for staff on drug control.
  • Assist pharmacists with filling orders, IV preparation, and delivery.
  • Regularly check stock to ensure compliance with FDA requirements.
  • Participate in training pharmacy technicians and staff to ensure timely medication delivery.
  • Under supervision, advise patients and healthcare professionals on medication use, including dosage, side effects, and composition.
  • Assist in compounding, labeling, and packaging medications.
  • Ensure secure storage of narcotics and controlled substances.
  • Prepare clinical briefs for healthcare staff.
  • With demonstrated competency, consult with medical staff on drug utilization and monitor drug therapy appropriateness, suggesting adjustments as needed.
  • Participate in meetings, committees, and community outreach.
  • Engage in quality and service improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    • Active enrollment in a Pharm.

      D. program from an ACPE-accredited school.
    • Less than 1 year and 6 months of hospital experience.
    • Certified by a national pharmacy technician certification program or registered as a Pharmacy Technician in Maryland, or eligible for a student exemption.
    • Active Pharm

      D student in an accredited program.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Basic computer skills preferred.

    This position offers a salary range of $17.50 to $28.73 per hour.
